Use of Wireless for Local Area Network (WLAN) was relatively recent but we have heard more thunder than raindrops. There was too much hype and most projects failed because the technology was not mature. With the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (IEEE) ratifying the security standard 802.11i in 2004 and Wi-Fi (Wireless Fidelity) Alliance starting to certify compliant products, the industry has given the 2nd birth to WLAN.
