Vanadium SLX Workstation is a dual processor server system based on the latest AMD x86-64 Opteron technologies with SLI (Scalable Link Interface) PCI-Express for high-end graphics cards.  Opteron has an architecture that addresses 2 main bottlenecks on server computing performance- main memory transfer and I/O throughput with Direct Connect Architecture and Hyper-Transport respectively.  For higher performance, we recommend to have the memory in pairs running in interleaving mode.   The base system also includes 4 Serial-ATA Host-RAID (0, 1, 10) ports, 2 Gigabit Ethernet ports, 2 PCI-Express x16 slots, 3 x PCI-X slots and 1 PCI slot providing high network performance and HDD redundancy via the on-board RAID.  Please add HDDs, hot swap caddies, redundant PSU, OS and external backup tape drive as required to complete the system configuration.
