Graphics include colour, shape, shade, texture, depth of view, and in fact movement as in a video. Graphics is a dimension that makes life interesting and entertaining. Computer graphics has come a long way since the advent of PC. Where are we at today? Developments have taken place along 3 distinct paths: gaming, professional and consumer. Gaming graphics cards are expensive, whereas professional graphics cards are more expensive. Both have many advanced features over consumer grade graphics hardware that exists as an integrated part of a modern PC. Advanced features make computer displays realistic. We talk about computer colours by reproducing colours to an accuracy of 1 in 10,000. It is realistic but not real. Real colours have an infinite resolution. Today’s computer graphics are still not approaching reality. Speed of reproduction is another issue. Gaming and professional cards are faster than consumer grade.
