Remote Support for Network Administrators Print
May 2007
Network administrators in schools have to handle two roles - providing advice and guidance as to the structure of the network to satisfy the ICT requirements of the school and keeping the network operating optimally. There is no question that the school ICT agenda is the reason for the existence of the network and the administrator, the network being means for providing the required services that will meet the needs of the ICT agenda. Network administrators spend significant time monitoring the wellbeing of the network, servers and hardware, and rightly so, the time spent is a necessary devil.  To maximize efficiency, and to give back some time to the administrator that they could use for other equally important tasks, why can't we automate some background tasks and remove them from the workload of the network administrator?  How?
