Kamo High School has hosted this series of seminars for the last 14 years since 2002.  The goal is to promote computing as the third foundation skill domain after literacy and numeracy.

o    This seminar is designed for professionals, teachers, business executives, IT industry people, and selected senior students of the school.  The audience is expected to have a range of different backgrounds and intellectual abilities.  To keep all engaged in the seminar, we will present the seminar in plain English and show technical info to illustrate key messages when necessary.  The content is designed to be educational, enjoyable, and inspirational.  It is not for hands-on skill training.

o    We will provide an update of the latest development of high performance computing (HPC) in New Zealand.  The background is that New Zealand is one of the five countries in the world appointed to develop high performance computing technologies for one of the biggest science projects in the world (called Square Kilometre Array, or SKA in short).  The New Zealand Government has recently stepped up our stake by further investing in the New Zealand team.  As a follow up, AUT has obtained the support of the other 7 universities and launched a national data technology centre of excellence in July 2016.

o    Compucon is part of the above actions and has specifically taken up the task of developing open architecture technologies and promoting HPC to schools and businesses in New Zealand.  On this occasion, we will reveal a new wave of computing technology that is sweeping around the globe like a storm.  All the big boys are investing their deep pocket in it, and so is Compucon with a shallow pocket.  We have hinted about this new wave in previous seminars by mentioning how a baby learns.  We will increase the level of information transfer from 2 slides last time to 17 this time.   No mathematics other than simple addition and multiplication will be shown during this information transfer exercise.  Applications cover all walks of life including government, education, finance, economy, and all levels of businesses.
