An Intel Matrix RAID normally do not allow an in-situ drive rebuild
through the Windows-based utility. Utility of version 9.6.0.1014 (known as Intel Rapid Storage) do support clearing of faulted drive and these procedures are not applicable.
*NOTE: An upgrade of the Intel Matrix RAID to the latest Intel Rapid Storage Technology driver and management tool under Windows is highly recommended, as it allows you to reset failed drives effortlessly. We have also noted many false alarms under the older Matrix RAID driver which labels drives as faulty, even though they are not actually faulty*
These procedures will show you how to erase the drive and rebuild the
array while minimising down time and physical access required to achieve the objective.
- Open Intel Matrix utility. Please note the serial numbers of both
the operating drives and the faulted drive and which SATA port each is
connected to. Do not sever any connection while machine is running.
- Turn off machine.
- Remove the power cable only for the non-faulty drives, leaving only the faulty drive connected.
- Turn on machine.
- Push DEL while the machine is still in POST to enter BIOS Setup.
- Disable RAID function temporarily then Save and Exit.. You will be
restoring these option to the original RAID state at the end of the
procedure.
(It is important to consult your motherboard manual for information on
how to enable/disable Intel RAID.)
Examples:
- For Supermicro X8SIL-F:
Go to Advance Menu > SATA/Floppy Configuration
Ensure SATA#1 and SATA#2 both have IDE option selected.
-
For Asus P6T:
Go to Main menu > Storage Configuration
Change Configure SATA as: IDE
- Clear the partition table on the faulty drive by the means of a
DOS floppy, ShadowProtect or WinPE Diskpart utility.
- Once the partition table is cleared, reset the machine.
- Push DEL on POST to enter BIOS setup and re-enable RAID function (reverse of step 6). Save and Exit.
- Turn off and Reconnect all cables correctly.
- Start machine. Once inside Windows, open the Intel Matrix utility.
- Highlight the lone drive and select the option: Action menu >
Create RAID Volume From Existing Hard Drive
- Allow array to rebuild.

For a brief overview please see this knowledge base article .
Earlier this year Tandberg Data released a new backup and recovery application for use with its NAS and RDX Quickstor removable media systems. It provides powerful customisation and data compression while still remaining quick and easy to use, making backing up your data (and exchange/sql databases with Accuguard Server Edition) more streamlined than traditional tape backup systems. It uses both data deduplication and advanced data compression to reduce regular backups to as much as a twentieth of the original data size. Data recovery is simple with the option to search backups for specific file names or file types with the use of a wild card (e.g. app*.doc searches for all Word documents beginning with ‘app’). You can also browse backups in Windows Explorer and drag and drop or copy files and folders to a location of your choice, you can even open files with their associated applications out of the explorer

Sion Roberts
Sion presented some of the things that impinge on integrating automated management software into work environments in CPD 19 May 2010. This is what Sion said.
Specifically I will talk about clients with regard our ‘client interface’. I will also demonstrate what an automated system looks like. And I will discuss some of the components that make it up. Strategy will come into it somewhere.
Sion’s background includes an apprenticeship in heavy engineering, a mathematics degree, an honours degree in physics and a Cranfield MBA. Professional accreditation includes CEng and MRAeS. Industrial experience has included senior technical management in the aircraft industry and in the local marine industry.
