Invitation to Register for CAST - 22 April 2009 Print
March 2009

Continuing Professional Development plays an important role in assisting Compucon channel peers to remain current and develop new competencies in information technology practices.  Presentation slides will be posted in the Members Area on www.compucon.co.nz in about a week’s time inclusive of changes and comments brought up in the seminar.

CAST is Compucon Authorized Service Technician training course.  It is held ONCE A YEAR only unless there is strong demand for an additional course in the same calendar year.  CAST is different to the standard CPD sessions in several ways:

(a)    CAST is more computer repair or maintenance oriented whereas CPD is more about technologies and products on the market including hardware and software

(b)    CAST has a constant content which is adjusted annually to include updates whereas every CPD session is different

(c)    CAST is a concentrated program whereas CPD sessions are short

(d)    We will provide a manual for CAST whereas none for CPD

(e)    More attention is given to individual members in CAST than CPD to ensure that the information presented is understood and absorbed

IP Camera CA1231 (Out Door Bullet) Print
February 2009

CA-1231 is a Megapixel POE IP camera suitable for Day and Night OUT DOOR surveillance use.  The gun or bullet shape produces a deterrent effect (which however may attract vandalism).  Its capabilites are the same as CA-7411 except that this model is not vandal proofed.  Street price is estimated to be $1,440 + GST each as at 26 February 2009.

2009-02_acm-1231.jpg
Special features of the camera are:

MPEG-4/MJPEG Dual Streaming: This camera supports either 30 frame per second in full D1 resolution, or 7 frames per second in SXGA megapixel (1280x1024) resolution.

Automatic Frame Rate Control: This camera supports automatic and manual streaming frame rate control, especially for multiple clients concurrent access the same video stream in different network bandwidth.

Digital Time Code Embedded: This function is to embed the recording time in the MPEG bit stream. Therefore, each image frame has its respective time when it was recorded. It is very useful when users want to find the video of an exact time or between a certain time intervals.

DDNS: This camera supports DDNS (Dynamic Domain Name Server).  Users can set this IP device at a virtual domain name (such as cam1.Taipei.xxx) as a dynamic IP. Everyone can use the virtual domain name to view the video anywhere that has the access to the internet.

Build-in Hardware Motion Detection: No more external motion sensors are required. The camera can be set up to 3 detection areas. By tuning the object size and sensitivity, it is very reliable to fit into your environment. Besides, hardware motion detection delivers better sensitivity and responds faster than software motion detection.
