Compucon is proud to announce a new version of Thin Client terminal (X1000) for business and corporate office use. This new thin client terminal does not have any moving part. It uses a very low power CPU without the need for a ventilation fan. It uses IC memory in lieu of hard disk. Its power adaptor is outside the chassis (just like a laptop). All these features collectively make sure that the failure of the hardware is reduced to the minimum. It is very small in size (213x45x203mm) and very light in weight (2.25kg)- it can be easily accommodated where space is limited. Its supported VGA display capabilities are impressive: up to 1920 x 1440 for CRT and 1600 x 1200 for LCD. It is powered by Linux (version 2.4.30). Execution of real time applications is hosted by 128MB of main memory that is considered very generous for a thin client terminal. Software is compatible with the previous version (X2200) and a wide range of server software and applications. Estimated street price is $570 + GST. Please see details (link to be fixed) for more information… |

The goal is to develop a cost effective iSCSI based storage area network solution for medium sized organisations that need to manage a lot of data storage. iSCSI is an implementation of SCSI over TCP/IP over Ethernet as ratified by the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF). It is the newest standard for storage area networks and complements optic fibre based Storage Area Networks. All components for making up an iSCSI SAN are available but some such as Storage Virtualisation Software are not standardised.

"It is with great pleasure that I put pen to paper regarding my very own COMPUCON. I run a very successful audio production company producing everything from radio, TV and film trailers, ads and jingles, to children’s programs and stories. We currently have a New Zealand On Air funded program on the Classic Hits 97.4 network of radio stations called “That’s The Story”. This goes to air New Zealand wide every Sunday morning from 7 till 8 and features children’s stories, songs and competitions. This program, in its entirety, is produced on a COMPUCON computer system. I am a creative director- right brainer through and through. RAM to us still means a male goat, RAID is a fly spray & MOTHER BOARDS are what mum did the ironing on. I am by no means that computer literate, I know how my programs work and that’s about it. My trusty COMPUCON system has put up with my bashing and thumping and over use for nearly six years now without fault. I now run a company that pays wages and turns a very healthy profit all because of one metal box filled with stuff I know very little about. I congratulate the COMPUCON staff for creating a product that not only works well, it works without fault. I haven’t had a single technician look at my computer for nearly 6 years." |
