Compucon is pleased to announce the official release of Thunderbird K8 Workstation for the performance market sector such as graphics design, engineering analysis and software development. The new Thunderbird K8 Workstation supports AMD Athlon 64 processors with integrated direct memory control and employs high bandwidth Hyper-Transport trunks for input and output data flow. This system does not use integrated VGA and is configured with a discrete MX440 64MB AGP card that gives the customer an upgrade path for high-end graphics. This system provides 2 Serial ATA ports for hard disk on RAID 0 or 1. RAID is hardware assisted not software making the system ideal for either precious data processor with HDD mirroring or high disk access intensive applications with HDD data striping. Another standard feature of this system is Gigabit Ethernet. This Thunderbird K8 Workstation is indeed quite a high performance platform and is positioned above P4 Superhawk.

Compucon officially announced on 30 August 2004 the launch of Vanadium AGP Workstation based on the innovative AMD K8 platform and x86-64 Opteron processors, following a previous announcement on Vanadium Server. This Compucon Vanadium AGP Workstation is based on AMD K8 technologies incorporating Direct Memory Connect and Hyper-Transport technologies for achieving a higher memory transfer rate and I/O throughput bandwidth. It is supported by both 32 bit and 64 bit software, and it is stable, fast and relatively inexpensive. Third party evaluations of the new technologies used have been favourable. Colmar Brunton, a leading market research company in New Zealand, has happily endorsed Compucon as a reference site. Colmar Brunton has a moderately sized but modern information system network running Windows 2003 and deploying terminal services to support up to 200 staff and associates around the country on a 24 by 7 basis. Managing this network and meeting all user requirements is obviously a demanding task. Traditionally Colmar Brunton used overseas brands for hardware due to the perception of quality and reliability. The demand for file storage has been increasing exponentially due to the popularity of the Internet, email and multimedia applications. Small offices such as real estate brokers, lawyers, accountants etc demand storage for sharing files and for quick retrieval. Executives demand back up of their critical files with as little effort as possible or with total transparency. The traditional answers to these demands have been less than exciting. Some IT managers would increase the storage size of hard disks in the fileserver, and the fileserver would become a bottleneck reducing responsiveness to the entire network. Some IT managers would install network storages that cost $6,000 and above and these storages in turn create more work for the IT manager. This Compucon Vanadium Server is based on AMD 8131 and 8111 chipsets, incorporating Direct Memory Connect and Hyper-Transport technologies for achieving a higher memory transfer rate and I/O throughput bandwidth than the current generation of DX platforms. It is supported by both 32 bit and 64 bit software, and it is stable, fast and relatively inexpensive. Third party evaluations of the new technologies used have been favourable.
