4:00pm – 4:30pm Fast & Efficient Computing (TN Chan)
4:30pm - 5:00pm Aerial Surveying (Andrew Watson)
5:00pm – 6:00pm Augmented Reality Imersia (Roy Davies)
6:00pm – 7:30pm Wine and Cheese
Fast & Efficient Computing
We are on track to develop a Fast & Efficient Computer for audio video applications as an On Ramp System. Moore's Law has definitely slowed down, and the automatic annual performance gain from semiconductor process improvements does not exist any more. Performance gain will come from parallelism of either or both of hardware and software. This is the scope of Compucon R&D for the last 3 years. Our R&D has progressed from the thought space to the hands-on stage. We will attempt to vision what new business our business partners can expect to attract in six months. Business is not limited to audio video as it is only an on-ramp for visioning. We will appraise what a low cost graphics card can do to start this session.
Aerial Surveying
Aerial photography is - as it sounds - the process of taking photographs from the air, but there is more to it than simply using a light aircraft or helicopter and flying up to take photographs. There are many elements to an aerial survey that must be considered to ensure that the data is useable to extrapolate the required information, whether that be the number of trees or swimming pools etc. When I started 30 years ago it was “number one eyeball”, large film cameras and complicated mechanical devices. Today it’s all pixels, lasers and GPS. Andrew is the Geospatial Manager of Aerial Surveys Limited.
Augmented Reality
Pervasive Computing is the new 'PC'. Technology is 'disappearing' as
people become mobile. The ways people are interacting with technology
is changing. Connectivity is becoming faster and cheaper. These are
factors that herald new challenges for high performance computing.
Pokemon Go is an example of such an Augmented Experience fed from a
cloud architecture. In this talk we will consider aspects of Imersia’s
proposed vast, massively distributed, scalable and interconnected web
that enables users access to and interactions with millions of channels
of AR content shared simultaneously with other users connected by an
AR-web AI which seamlessly directs channels to users. Dr Roy Davies is
the CTO of Imersia.
