Intel released a full range of CPU models in June 2013. According to the well published Intel’s tick-tock strategy (a tick being a die shrink, a tock being an architecture update), the June 2013 release was named Haswell and it was a tock from its previous release named Ivy Bridge. The next platform is Broadwell, a tick (die-shrink) from 22nm to 14nm due out somewhere near the end of 2014. In the meantime being June 2014, Intel released several CPU models and called them Haswell Refresh still based on 22nm.
The date of release and performance specification of various CPU models are shown in the table below.
"Haswell" (22 nm)
The Haswell architecture is specifically designed to optimize the power
savings and performance benefits from the move to FinFET transistors on
the improved 22 nm process node
Haswell feature improvements over Ivy Bridge include:
Approximately 8% better vector processing performance.
Up to 6% faster single-threaded performance.
6% faster multi-threaded performance.
Haswell draws around 8% more power under load than Ivy Bridge.
Around 15° hotter than Ivy Bridge and can't break 4.2 GHz as easily.
A 6% increase in sequential CPU performance (eight execution ports per core versus six).
Up to 20% performance increase over the integrated HD4000 GPU (Haswell HD4600 vs Ivy Bridge's built-in Intel HD4000).
Total performance improvement on average is about 3%
