This is our inaugural issue of Compucon User Community Newsletter in an email format. We have done the print-and-post format since Year 2000 and we believe it is time to change. Why should we bother to change? Is it just for the cost saving only? Without doubt, the cost saving is a big incentive. For a circulation of 4,000 newsletters, the cost of printing, posting and handling is about $6000. Each newsletter costs $1.50 to circulate. The cost drops to almost zero if we employ the Internet as the medium. Of-course, the cost does not include the time, knowledge and effort of producing the content which would always be required irrespective of the delivery medium. Compucon has planned to reach as many as 40,000 customers in a few years time and the cost saving will become more visible over time. However, the most important reason for the change is the efficiency of email as compared to snail mail. Not only can the newsletter reach you instantly, you can reply to us instantly as well if you want. Snail mail does not offer this benefit. So, this is our first effort and we hope you like it!
