Compucon IP access control is achieved with remotely controllable door locks and keys based on Internet Protocols. In order for the door locks to be remotely controllable, the locks will be driven by electric or magnetic force instead of manual force. In order for the door keys to be remotely controllable, the keys will be empowered with radio frequency (RF) for conveying the identity (ID) of the key holder. Two most popular form factors of such keys are credit size card and key-ring tag/fob. The combination of remotely controllable door locks and door keys implemented by Compucon is more reliable, more secured, and easier than traditional manual devices to operate.
Reliable: When we went to the locksmith to make a copy of the metal key, the new key might not work due to minor cutting issues and we had to go back to the locksmith to fix the issues. The same will not happen on radio frequency ID (RFID) cards. Instead of going to a key smith for a replacement key, we go to the same source (supported by Compucon) which issued the original cards to us. Key smiths are unlikely able to do duplications for us- try this. Secured: We may get a locksmith to open a door for us in case we have lost the key. This cannot happen in the case of RFID cards. Locksmiths cannot unlock for us from the outside of the door. However, the same source (supported by Compucon) which supplied the original RFID card to users can give users another card that could open the door. The power has shifted from locksmiths (any of them) to a specific and well-defined source supported by Compucon who is either the residence manager or the business manager given the responsibility for building security. Locksmiths are not responsible or accountable per se. Easier: One card may allow us to open several doors and multiple cards could be kept in our credit card purse. Lots of heavy keys and key chains would not be a burden on us any more. Reporting and replacing a lost card is easy as contacting our residence or business manager who we may see daily. Benefits: Imagine we are a hotel guest and we do feel comfortable with the RFID card issued by the hotel for hotel and room access. True? In fact, the hotel management is the major beneficiary of the new system and individual users are minor beneficiaries. The RFID scheme is so much more efficient and cheaper to operate than the tradition door lock scheme that turning back is not an option for hotel management for example. |
