One of the Compucon sites in Epsom suffered a major attack of its underground carpark by a person who appeared to have legal access to the building.
Several cars had their windows smashed and some carpark thumb controllers were lost among a lot of other items.
While the offender was identified clearly by video surveillance cameras, building owners and tenants realized that the thumb access control system was unable to identify which cars came into the carpark and the thumb controllers were expensive to replace.
Compared to the previously installed system, the new system offers the clients these merits:
- Car drivers do not use a thumb controller anymore. Each car is given an RFID tag to be replaced on the windscreen. Detection of the tag is automatic as the car drives close to the carpark entrance.
- The ID of the tag is recorded in a computer in the building manager office. The ID reveals the owner and apartment unit.
- A snapshot of the car is provided and it reveals the license plate number clearly.
- Each tag is $50 + GST cheaper than a thumb controller which the building manager previously supplied.
