Facebook quoted its datacentre achieved PUE of 1.09 against an EPA best practice level of 1.5.  The datacentre consumed 52% less energy than a standard datacentre.  Non vanity saved 6 pounds of materials per server.  Its electricity voltage transformation steps reduced energy loss from 11% for the best traditional datacentre to 2%.  Source: http://www.opencompute.org/learn/energy-efficiency/

Google has added to the momentum of OCP which is now the de facto open source for hardware makers.  The news article pointed out that OCP affected name brands server system vendors the most and OCP transferred a lot of their business to vanilla hardware makers in Taiwan.  OCP is changing the industry infrastructure in a big way.
