Wireless is not secured - is it a myth? It is often used for consumer grade security devices but is not reommended for professional security systems. However, wireless can be deployed in specific situations professionally. It sounds contradictory or imprecise at least. Science has long confirmed that nothing in the universe is precise. Engineering comes in to achieve the best practical balance. Compucon has deployed wireless in 3 sites including one across several spans of a couple of kilometers of public spaces successfully. This post explains the myth of contradiction through an example of an installation in Auckland less than 12 months ago.

A food processing company extended its premises to include a neighbouring section of houses. There were two houses in the new section, and the houses were not inhibited for some time and needed renovation in our minds. This situation implied that the inter-house video surveillance camera connections from the 2 houses back to the office on the adjacent sections must not obstruct renovation works when they took place. This was our foresight because the client didn't mention renovation at all. Our solution was to install point-to-point wireless beams (P2PWLB). Instead of running wires on the ground or fence, all houses are connected with P2PWLB. As expected, renovation work took place over several weeks subsequently. The video surveillance system remained in operation all the time and stayed secured.
