Many cities in the world have started building up their wireless networks in 2006 on a regional scale (such as the Taipei central business district). Some of these networks are for rental and some are free to use as part of the city infra-structure. These networks will no doubt enhance digital connectivity between users and internet access for the city-wide populartion. This situation comes about 2 years after IEEE ratified the security standard in the form of 802.11i. For sure, some WLAN standards are still in development but the technology has already gone past the point of stability. The current major industry effort is on developing self-healing and optimal routing capabilities for WLAN. WLAN is now in its prime time. From now on, Compucon will gradually introduce more WLAN know-how and products to customers through this website.
